Blake Johnson, from Roxboro, North Carolina plays the acoustic bass. He started playing the guitar and piano at the age of five with his family in church. When he was fifteen, he played with Second Chance bluegrass band. Blake then played with Jay Kazor and the Bluegrass Connection at the age of eighteen. Two years later, he joined Little Mountain Grass. Now, at the age of 24, Blake's high range vocals and bass playing are emphasized with the Hagar's Mountain Boys.
Cliff Waddell, from Youngsville, North Carolina began playing the guitar at the age of seven. Cliff and his father attended several festivals where he jammed with other local talents and developed a hard driving style of flat picking. When Cliff was sixteen, he played with the Late Departure bluegrass band. Now at the age of 25, Cliff sings baritone, and plays lead and rhythm guitar as a Hagar's Mountain Boy.
Cliff Smith, from Virgilina, Virginia began playing the guitar at the age of five. At the age of eight, he began playing the bass. At twelve, he picked up the banjo and the fiddle. Cliff's family played for many square dances around southern Virginia since the 1940s. Cliff at age 20 played with the band Blueridge Thunder. Two years later, he played with Stories Creek. Now at the age of 26, Cliff's hard driving banjo picking and bass vocals drives the Hagar's Mountain Boys.
Ricky Stroud, from Roxboro, NC grew up in Mullins, South Carolina. He started singing with his family in a gospel group at the age of five. He began playing the mandolin at the age of eight. In 1990, he and his father founded the band The Pilgrims. His younger brother and sister also sang with the group. In 1995, he began playing with the band Sounds of Grass. In 1997, Ricky moved to Roxboro to join the New Classic Grass band. He joined the Stories Creek band in 2002. Two years later he joined Little Mountain Grass. At the age of 42, Ricky's solid mandolin picking and high range vocals can be heard with the Hagar's Mountain Boys.
